Sewing fedi, perhaps you can help me brainstorm some fabric questions. One: I'd love to find a fabric that has the same vibe as velvet (intended for lapel facings), something that looks fancy and vaguely gothic and luxurious, but that can handle rain and machine washing. The best thing I can currently think of is cotton flannel, but that doesn't quite scratch the itch. Edit: just realised cotton satin might be a viable option… not quite the same vibe as velvet, but washable and definitely more on the fancy end of things (even if not as much as silk) Two I need a fabric that's as warm as possible, but can also handle machine washing (or, at minimum, hand washing). This is intended for a dressing gown type garment, meant to regularly be worn on naked skin, and it should keep the wearer reasonably warm (open window, autumn and winter). Ideal would be as warm as cashmere knit, but that's unlikely; still, the warmer it can keep the wearer, the better. Again the best thing I can think of is cotton flannel and that's kind of unsatisfactory. Edit: I suppose terrycloth would work… a bit too close to a bathrobe for my liking, but maybe as a lining material? It traps lots of air (and thus warmth) and takes machine washing no problem. #AskFedi #Sewing #Clothes
