So, in my quest to simplify my life, I have started to decouple myself from the large privacy invading cloud and AI based services (Microsoft and Google, I'm looking at you), especially with regards to calendars.
Emacs has built-in calendar, diary, and appointment capabilities. As I live in Emacs most of the time, these are sufficient for the vast majority of my calendar needs. However, until I achieve the holy grail of *Emacs on the go* (I'm getting there but not quite yet), I really do need an appointment notification system that works with my mobile phone.
The solution: advise (using `advice-add`) the `appt-display-message` function to send the appointment information to my phone, using `ntfy.sh` (so still cloud based but hopefully less intrusive).
This works because I have Emacs running 24/7 on my home desktop.
