So the news item is headlined by Trump apparently securing new sources of potash. From Belarus. At less than current Canadian prices. https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/article/us-working-on-deal-to-buy-potash-from-belarus-for-lower-price-than-canada-trump-says/ But wait, if that potash was just sitting there, available at rates below Canadian rates, why weren't you already buying that? But likewise, if you are Belarus, why are you selling this at a discount? There are 20 countries between here and there that would happily accept a discount as well. Even a cursory examination of these questions will lead one to conclude that this potash has vibes much closer to "fell off the back of a truck", than to a negotiated trade deal.
