Thunderbird 3 adopts #LMDB
"Thunderbird’s legacy “Offline Storage” (OST) mode writes duplicate copies of every message to local SQLite DBs—increasing SSD write amplification by 3.1× and accelerating NAND wear. Alpha 1 replaces OST with a unified, journal-optimized LMDB store that shares indexes across accounts—reducing on-disk footprint by 62% and eliminating write stalls during large attachments."

Nice to see someone actually using time/motion studies to optimize the Thunderbird UI and UX. Actual adults in the room...
