What's circling the drain in civil society is white male supremacy and imperial attitudes.
What's circling the drain in the church is the idolatrous worship of those things.
My church not only retains its youth but has an unusually high rate of young people choosing to become priests. It turns out that the youth will stick around if they see people actually trying to live out Jesus' commands to love one another. They just don't like bigotry, hypocrisy, and greed, and I say good for them.

@MaryAustinBooks@mstdn.social As a psychologist I talk to a lot of young to youngish people who have rejected the Christianity they grew up in. Almost without exception, they left because they wanted to be part of something more compassionate, loving and honest than their churches made room for. They bailed because they didn’t want to settle for stagnant mucky stuff that claimed to be living water.
