@gsuberland@chaos.social Also used to be 8 characters, and shouldn't be a word. (I think this was some truncation thing.) Now, the recommendation is split among those wanting to use a few words in a row because it's technically harder to brute force, and those who want your small password to have special characters (but not provide emoji support)

    @arem@mstdn.ca @gsuberland@chaos.social A junior colleague of mine was tasked to design and implement secure "passwords" to be used to identify computer systems among themselves. So instead of using long random hex strings, like I suggested later, when I found out what he'd been up to, he googled it, and came up with long-words-separated-by-hyphens.
