@sven "upstream first" may not end with getting stuff merged ASAP but may end with getting upstream stuff more ready for your stuff. Or comments how to make your stuff better. Years ago I was at a talk. Speaker was from company disliked in FOSS world. He said: "We sent our driver upstream and because we were disliked many people looked to complain on code we wrote. In the end it was a few times faster and half the size." It is always worth sending patches upstream. Especially when they work.

@sven looking forward to all these changes! Would this also change behavior? Right now my USB-C hub (part of my monitor) doesn't get detected properly when it is plugged in at runtime: none or only some of the connected devices get recognized and it's very random. It only works correctly when it is plugged in during boot, after u-boot is finished enumerating USB devices (apparently u-boot messes up something USB related). So I have to get the timing just right every boot. It's really annoying.
