Because the alternative to genocide was “this genocide keeps happening anyway with perhaps even more support from us, but we’ll also start a genocide on latinos and pick several other fights that will get millions of people hurt”. How is THAT the better option?

If both sides are genocide, but one side is genocide both at home and abroad, ushering in a literal apocalypse on the fronts of education, lgbtq rights, removing the human rights of your neighbours, skyrocketing costs and decimating your savings, ushering in a religious autocracy, and killing the planet even more, is this a hard choice? Both sides may be a shit sandwich, but one side is a shit sandwich with human rights and who have shown they can be pressured to have less shit, and the other is double shot and everyone dies, but both sides are the same? Are you even serious?
