This does bring into question: if cats have nine lives shouldn’t each life have its own ghost? So hell is filled with how many cats have died times nine.
And the cats are in hell because they’re having fun torturing the catholic priests who gave out indulgences for money.

Nah the soul is tethered to the game over screen after the last life is lost. Same with butterflies (who carry an extra life but use it during metamorphosis)
