@beep@follow.ethanmarcotte.com I posted elsewhere about this being entirely unsurprising - that's the way we've been going for decades with mod cons in the home, computers and emails. Always more work, always more intensity. We don't get to delegate work and relax a bit. It's like the whole constant economic growth thing - can it really keep being sustained or does the planet run out of resources? So can our personal productivity keep growing, really - or do the brains and their meat suits also run out of resources?

@beep@follow.ethanmarcotte.com (this is a separate argument to the one where we ask, is AI actually helpful or is it giving us more spaghetti to untangle and hence actively increasing the workload as well as making some stuff happen faster)

@sarajw@front-end.social @beep@follow.ethanmarcotte.com Aside the constant economic growth, or greed, I also have a thought or two about how that growth is distributed. Coming back to productivity: I enjoy working on productivity gains (maybe society brainwashed me idk) but I increasingly realise that the people who do the work I automate rarely reap the benefits. Usually, it's the company and those that benefit of company success. Giving back time to folk in a non-profit or co-op, however…
