It’s unfortunately completely believable that he accidentally shot her trying to prove he was storing it safely, which seems to be what started the argument, with the Trump conflict being an exacerbating factor.
The prosecution should have pursued other charges, though. Reckless endangerment comes to mind, but NAL.

Granted that this is Texas so.. fuck logic. Still, killing your child because you got offended? I can't even...
