@matildalove@wetdry.world okay so. On vacation, and roadtripping from our base to a destination city to stay there a few days. Most of the reason I couldn't post on Tuesday was the long drive, but... As we approach the city, we stop by an overlook for photos and fresh air. We see a sign saying not to feed the baboons, and get out of the car. Who would feed baboons? They're scary! At the high altitude, the wind was strong enough to push us over if we weren't careful, so we were preoccupied with that. @len@nyan.network gets out, shuts their door, and runs to the overlook for pictures. One travel friend and I get out, and I fiddle with my camera in the wind, distracted. And then a bunch of baboons jump out of the bushes and - not even joking - blitz us. At least 10 adults, plus a couple of babies, perfectly hidden one second, swarming us the next. One jumped out of the trash can right in front of the car! In the confusion, I see my partner's car door open. My partner was still meters away from the car. :blobcatgooglynotlikethis: So now there's a baboon /in the car/, /with our friend who was driving/, grabbing at our bags, looking for something he can get his hands on. That sneaky creature opened the car door and got in during the distraction! The three of us outside the car (me, partner, other travel friend) start yelling and shouting at it to get out, and partner swings the door wide open. The car loses one freaked out baboon. He grabbed our snack bag on the way out. So now all our travel food is spilling across the ground, under a truck parked a couple meters from us, and the Wretched Thieves start to gather around for their feast. I chase after them and yell and shout some more because How DARE They! I was furious! I haven't been so angry in years! They back off, I grab one of the drink bottles that fell out of the bag, and then the Large Male comes around the side of the truck. I didn't want to tango with a full grown furry wrecking ball. Travel Buddy and I both shout to get in the car /now/ and we all do, and lock the doors. :senko_shock2: All of us are in a bit of shock. We'd just been robbed by baboon bandits. We take stock. No injuries (baboons are fucking scary and dangerous, no one should try to scare them like I did, that was stupid), nothing expensive or important missing (my camera, our passports, etc. were right by the snack bag), we're all okay. We check outside, and the fiends are peeling our oranges and ripping open our candy bars. We take photos. Honestly they stole the most acceptable things; we might as well get some pictures with the camera we still have. We take this whole episode as a sign to lock our doors judiciously. We go. On the way out we see the sign again, saying "don't feed the baboons." Another car drives in. We don't stick around to see what happens. :cirno_for_reals:
