There are a bunch of science fiction stories where the bad guys scoop out your brain, scan the neurons, and upload you to the cloud so you can live forever in virtual paradise, whether you want to or not. The Stone Canal, Iron Sunrise, Jury Service, Software.
We are now getting an idea of what *really* bad guys will do with brain scanning tech: the same thing they are currently doing to books. Scan them to train their model, then throw away the useless remains.

@jef@mastodon.social There was that short story written in Wikipedia form about the first upload and the combinatoric hells he ended up in until he became useless because of language and tech drift. It was a good story but my searches have failed because of the obvious reasons. Hopefully some other *human* knows what I'm talking about.
