Thinking about late nights at Manila Bay Bar & Grill in North Philadelphia, almost 20 years ago. Karaoke nights with many bottles of Red Horse, and plates of the best inihaw na baboy I've ever had.
I was born in NYC, and my father didn't teach us any Filipino languages, so the only Filipino song I can really sing is "Dahil sa Iyo". When everyone at the bar demanded I sing, too, I had them put that on. You should have seen the shock on their faces! 🤣
It's really such a beautiful song.

FTR, I was actually a BFA Music Theatre/Voice major at Carnegie-Mellon, one of the top university professional Theatre programs in the US. I can sing, for real. This is my favorite recorded version of "Dahil sa Iyo", by Florante Aguilar & Lori Abucayan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ke9xgTpPNI
