I'm re-reading Dune right now for a variety of reasons, and there's a lot wrong with it IMO (including serious queerphobia/misia & fatmisia), but it also has a ton of very cool ideas. Just came across this chapter-starter quote:
"The concept of progress acts as a protective mechanism to shield us from the terrors of the future."
This perfectly matches part of what I was trying to express with my recent short story about the pessimism of techno-optimism:

@tiotasram@kolektiva.social There are some useful ideas and concepts in the arc but it is a prosuctbodnits time so hasn't aged well in all aspects 🫤
