Tomorrow we watch Sting of Death. Today we marvel at Jellyfish life! 🤓 🪼
Jellyfish reproduction is wacky. They can reproduce sexually (spraying eggs and sperm around) or asexually (cloning) but for me the wildest bit is that after a baby polyp attaches to a surface it develops into a strobila, which is a chain or stack of teeny tiny jellyfish. When they are ready, they lift off the stack, one at a time, and start pulsing. Tiny ephedras! Then they hunt even tinier prey and grow bigger, into medusas. Well, the ones that aren't eaten up.
A stack of babies? Wacky.
