@Gurre@mastodon.nu It's because we've reduced the word "politics" to campaigning, electioneering, party jockeying, and "tribal" (I hate this word, but it's how they think) loyalties.

    @Gurre@mastodon.nu I volunteer for a campaigning organisation that has a principled stance on the future of our everyday lives and infrastructure. This is, a priori, political. But as a charity, we have to stay *party-neutral*. This gets confused in people's heads, and they pull back too much. If a party is explicitly aligned against our principles, we can call them out for that until they dissolve and it's not a problem. We can rate and rank politicians and manifestos on how well they serve our goals. We can analyse in the context of our hopes and expectations. But we can't just declare party loyalty or endorse a party in the abstract. But people will say "oh we're not allowed to be PoLiTiCaL" and I tear at my beard...
