IN OTHER NEWS… i remember a time when javascript was supposed to be an option of last recourse in web development. nowadays, it feels like most web developers don’t even know what a cascading style sheet it.
3 times i tried to land on the front page of an ecommerce site and 3 times it crashed my browser. had to search for the direct link of what am looking for, to finally get to the site.
JS was supposed to be a tool of last resort for developing web pages, but it’s now a scourge.

@blogdiva@mastodon.social I have been on a bit of a scraping binge as of late, for reasons that are bad, but one of the thingsI have learned about modern web development is that many web sites begin with a giant json hash with all of the info in a not-entirely-unreasonable semantic tree, that eventually a hundred MB of JS spits out into a bunch of HTML and CSS with 30-character gensym class names. Anyway those json blobs made my life easier, even though every site's parser still had to be custom. Still simpler.
