@dyckron@cosocial.ca Canada should look very carefully at Australia’s experience. Sydney Airport is a good example of what happens when essential public infrastructure is turned into an investment asset. The private investors get the long term revenue stream and returns for shareholders, while taxpayers still end up funding major infrastructure around it. Macquarie was at the centre of Sydney Airport’s original privatisation, and although it is no longer the owner, the basic model remains: privatise the revenue, socialise parts of the cost. Airports are public infrastructure, not another opportunity to manufacture profits for shareholders!
