Another reason that secular people in general need to engage with the science and philosophy of mind is that it helps people understand why current AI systems are not anything close to conscious entities.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who think the chatbot they use is alive. That's bad for them and bad for society.

Minds are not something we have or are, they are something that we do. And once you can accept that, it unlocks ways to de-stress yourself. This is something that Buddhism gets right, and it's worth learning from.
