@gianni@disobey.net @rl_dane@polymaths.social I am really unfond of this part: The average Web consumer doesn't need lossless From a user’s PoV, I want to be able to get at the originals when I want. For the web, this generally means the page author has to use them or link them from a thumbnail. (Another priority is displayability in things like lynx (xloadimage), links+, dillo, etc. so I believe photos should be JPEG, vector SVG (with PNG fallback if suitable), and everything else PNG.)

    @mirabilos@toot.mirbsd.org @rl_dane@polymaths.social this still just isn’t a latency-sensitive use case that warrants adding a whole new image codec to the web that isn’t even better than WebP and PNG on every image. 10% on average is not impressive at all
