Are #AI #chatbots like #Google #Gemini actually engaging in surreptitious #advertising? When I enter the title of my current #OpenSource project into Google Search, the AI-generated response initially provides a summary that is, in fact, surprisingly accurate. However, when I asked the AI who might be suitable implementation partners for rolling out this #OpenSource tool in my company, the answer started to smell: the project's maintainers themselves supposedly offer NO commercial support, which is definitely FALSE. The README for my project clearly states the exact opposite. The AI goes on to say that I could contact <company X> or <company Y>, claiming that both of these offer commercial support for #OpenSource projects as part of their portfolio. I wonder if company X and company Y are advertisers on Google?🤔 What about transparency regarding the influence of advertising budgets on AI-generated responses, especially at #Google?
