Always a pleasure to spot a new-to-us 🦋 butterfly; Polygonia c-album | the comma has characteristic notches in its forewings and orange/ brown/ black colouration, mimicking fallen leaves (📷1). We saw Natrix natrix | the European grass snake again several times—although only once alive (📷2); the others had been run over. It was a similar story with Anguis colchica | the eastern slowworm (or possibly Anguis fragilis | the common slowworm); this is a legless lizard, not a snake (📷3). As this is a national park established where people were already living for generations, human marks are carved on the natural world.
