My partner is 1500 words into Ukrainian learning and he reads really well. He mastered understanding cognates, which is a big chunk of languages of indo-european origin. I now give him a list of items with specifications in Ukrainian, and he can find his way around Ann's Deli and Bakery in Chicago by just looking and understanding the writing on labels. It bums me out when people tell me their partner doesn't want to learn their first language. I know how lucky I am <3
