Crescent Island, a ~ 1.7 km2 island in Kenya's Lake Naivasha, had its link to the mainland cut in 2020, isolating populations of impala, waterbuck, zebra, dik dik, wildebeest, giraffes, and hippopatami, without any large predators. The result has been overgrazing, proliferation of invasive plants, declining plant diversity, habitat degradation, and possible rising disease prevalence.
