@wendypalmer@mastodon.au interestingly in England and Wales (possibly Scotland/NI too, but they have different legal systems) you'd likely be justified for using the surveillance equipment *provided* the data was sent straight to safeguarding authorities, not shared on social media.
Certainly no-one would face criminal charges for deploying it (unless it was done deliberately for harrasment, such as a teenager who was using it for bullying)
Brits can (and do) use whatever covert/semi-covert recording kit they can get their hands on, even the old ladies walking dogs sometimes have semi-covert bodycams (due to concerns over angry men with big dogs behaving aggressively in dogwalking areas)
