At W3C we have standards that: a. help realise human rights (like WCAG, right to equal access, Web Sustainability Guidelines, various rights, and Global Privacy Control, right to privacy) b. could introduce human right risks when used maliciously (like Geolocation, there's privacy risks) The latter type needs to be mitigated, and various things at W3C are in place to help with that, including wide review, the Ethical Web Principles and the Societal Impact Questionnaire.

At the @ab@w3c.social , me and @torgo@mastodon.social have written “Further Aligning W3C's Program of Technical Work with Human Rights” that proposes more things we can do to consider human rights in W3C work. https://www.w3.org/TR/furthering-human-rights/ Some of these have already started, like the community group. https://www.w3.org/groups/cg/threats-and-harms/
