State control is the whole point of L Social and of every internet-related endeavour von der Leyen has ever been involved in. What EU higher-ups want from a social network and what the Fediverse wants to be is fundamentally incompatible.

@ratsnakegames@mastodon.social @elena@aseachange.com @pallenberg@mastodon.social There is certainly merit to your perspective, but I don't think we can regard "the EU" and it's officials as a monolith with one single purpose and will. They're fragmented and pulling in different directions like the society they represent. So our job is to support and nurture what is good and help that flourish. Such as their participation in an open information system.
