And as said in another post some days ago, I fear posts like this would cause a Streisand effect. Not cool to give them free publicity.

Or I can ignore Omarchy. I can continue to use and support the open source projects I like. I’ve been a happy linux and open source user for 25+ years. So far no asshole with money has been able to mess it up yet and I don’t see that changing. Many have tried.

Can we please stop posting about Omarchy? It’s annoying.

IMO it’s the same situation as with POTUS45 and POTUS47 elections. Not talking about twisted facts and criminal behaviour would be to condone it and speaking out creates publicity. Word fascism got (intentionally)overloaded over the last decade and means very little to a lot of people, reducing it to equivalent of “jerk” rather than evoke memories and feelings towards atrocities of WWII etc. So we need a better language 'cause when we call someone fascist today many tune out. All of this is to say that I see nothing wrong with contents of the article but I suspect it has very little of desired effect due to the above. There must be a better way, but at the moment I do not know what is it.

One thing I haven’t really figured out yet, and it may be because there isn’t an answer, is why some of these companies could plausibly be genuinely sending money to Omarchy. Like, Digital Ocean. They’re a headless server company. So… why are they donating anything to a desktop distro? There’s nothing Digital Oceany about Omarchy as far as I understand. It feels like someone was like “Guys, I made open source chicken feed” and Linode was like “son of a bitch I’m in”, I just don’t get it. Ignoring the part where they just like the vibes and want to spend their money on… favour? I don’t even know that the company pretends to get out of it… Like, how would one pitch this expense to shareholders? We use company money to fund projects we don’t use, that have nothing to do with our business, because the guy running the project we don’t use is mean to people who aren’t white enough for him? And that’s what we’re spending your money on?

That was very long. Linux is like 6 percent of the personal computing share and thenvast majority of that share is Ubuntu. There will always be an open platform somewhere because that is the nature of open projects. I wouldnt worry too much abour some dipshit billionaire’s pet project. Omarchy will probably fall as fast as it rose like any other trendy.OS.

So is omarchy just Nazi SCO?

I never thought an operating system would get milkshake-ducked. Literally, in the span of 24 hours, I went from: 0h - Never heard of Omarchy 12h - YouTube homepage flooded with dozens of videos about how cool Omarchy is 24h - Omarchy is run by fascists.

Posts like this that I have to scroll and scroll to get past don’t usually get read. I’m not hear to read a thesis.

i’m so incredibly annoyed by the fact that my previously favorite hosting provider digital ocean decided to fund this ridiculousness… any favorite alternatives anyone can offer?

Omarchy is Hannah Montana Linux for bigots.

Excellently written. I’m going to borrow this line of reasoning next time I hear Omarchy brought up at work

I read the wolf blog and yeah fucked up stuff. Idk what happens but if Linux projects profits from him idc, people need money to work, devs get money. It really subjective like if you’ll use a project that is funded by him.

Damn I knew some fascist movements were trying to take over the environmentalist scene but I wouldn’t have imagined fascists meddeling with open source.

I… what? This literally says nothing. The title promised me a description of a power grab, but the actual contents are just “DHH sux”. Even accepting that premise as I do…no power grab is described.

Instead of focusing so much on hating something highlight things you love like Archlinux and stop reporting on things you don’t like. Reporting on them does the opposite of what you want.

I agree for the most part, except for the use of the terms “fascist” and “racist.” Those terms are used far too quickly and far too often. This weakens and normalizes them.
