On September 11, 1964, The Beatles were scheduled to perform at the Gator Bowl Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. Upon learning the venue planned to segregate the audience, the band issued a statement refusing to play unless black and white fans were seated together. The venue organizers yielded, making it the first integrated concert held at the stadium. The Beatles added a specific clause to their performance contracts stating they would not perform for segregated audiences.
