@penwing@wandering.shop
is this slop? i'd feel deeply shameful for humans if a human wrote this. absolutely none of this should be on a sf starter list.
My time one Gregory Benford's Timescape.
yes to Leckie, yes to Butler,
My post apocalypse, Z For Zachariah by Robert C O'Brien
Haven't read Becky Chambers, perfectly happy to trust your taste
My "the list has to have some Le Guin" Lathe Of Heaven
And my wildcard: We Who Are About To... by Joanna Russ
no room for Blue Light unfortunately.

@floppyplopper@todon.nl @penwing@wandering.shop I'd go for The Dispossessed as my starter Le Guin, I think. And perhaps Arthur C. Clarke's Fountains of Paradise for the classic (though I'd need to re-read it first as Clarke wasn't great at writing women...) We Who Are About To is a banger though, more people should read it so I say put it on all the lists.

@floppyplopper@todon.nl @penwing@wandering.shop the image used in the "article" is definitely genAI, and the content is dated 2026, so I'd assume it's all fluff. It's also very silly to list the same author twice in a list, but an AI wouldn't know this.
