apparently the source of this raw loops shit is a 2013 talk by a guy who seems kind of dim tbh and this (pic 1, 2) is the extent of his argument against them
if you need a loop you need a loop, and it's still a loop if you use an iterator method or wrap the loop in a function. you're not reducing complexity at all, but you are introducing indirection in the codebase which just makes understanding, debugging, and updating the code harder
some people argue you should use an iterator method AND a function, because, I suppose, that produces the most compact code possible. nevermind that the explanatory value of the resulting one liner is approximately nil
