monogamy. people try and try to make it work, but it so often just hurts them or their partner or both. they cheat, or they beat themselves up for wanting other people, or they suffer never having a relationship with someone they love, or they leave someone they love to be with someone they might love more, and no end of other bad situations. i hate that its pushed on us and i dont understand why people insist that its the natural way for us to be. since i committed to nonmonogamy ive been so much happier and it feels so right. how could anyone want to limit their relationships and the relationships of the person they claim to love the most by forcing themselves to be exclusive?

I am “naturally” monogamous, as in I am perfectly fulfilled with a single partner at a time. A single relationship is just the maximum I can handle. On one hand, I think polygamy makes most sense. Having different needs met by different partners seems so good on paper, the necessity of clear communication is a great boon as well. On the other hand, I just don’t feel like that. I never even had crushes on multiple people at the same time. And being a moral person, I ended relationships when they weren’t working anymore. This to say: some people just “are” monogamous. Not being a cheating asshole is extra, though.
