Well that was an interesting day.
An #offgrid neighbour has one of Hugh Piggott's wind turbine designs (https://scoraigwind.co.uk/) It's been powering her house pretty reliably for the last 20 years. But that's a long time, so it was time to get it refurbished. Although Hugh is pretty much retired from this aspect of his career, he offered to do the refurbishment, which meant getting the incredibly heavy unit off the pole, and down to the pier at Scoraig (no roads there)

2. Hugh actually found that the alternator had thrown one of its magnets. Who knows when that happened, but the units are so tough that, apart from an occasional ticking noise, it was still working well. It was ready last week, so was collected again from the pier yesterday, and as it happened, there was a weather window suitable for the re-erection today. Now Hugh's designs are used around the world, and, while this one was professionally built, many are self-built. 3/...
