Holy S*** just for yucks I did a quick google for current SRAM card prices. I could probably afford a TRS80 Model3 or 4 with enough left over for a couple of bags of twiglets or a dot matrix printer in reasonable nick and a couple of boxes of greenbar fanfold

Not in anything under lineprinter widths Those SRAM cards are expensive, not because Newtons use them, but there's a very specific range of CNC machining centre that uses them for program storage. Since these machines are still going strong, the people who need the cards *really* need the cards and will pay for them
