The moment we crossed the border from Malaysia into Singapore late last night, I knew every inch (and centimetre) of the place even without looking very much.
From the corner of my eye I could see: here was the animal inspection hut where I had to present Cookie for inspection when I moved her to Singapore.
There was the bus stop I spent many mornings waiting for a public bus to school.
That was the bridge upon which I broke up with a teenage love.
I knew exactly where the bus would turn, and I could feel it in my bones, even before we got there.
What does it feel like to be so far away from a place that is so deeply imprinted in me?
