@linguacelta@toot.wales I'm more worried about shit like people potentially braking our glasses that we rely on to help us do shit, making places less accessible by design by not following the law, subtly keeping us from participating in activities that they see as something we can't do because we are blind, not people using the word blind for other meanings.

@LeonianUniverse@mastodon.stickbear.me Thanks for your perspective. I've come to believe that negative stereotypes in language are part of what builds negative social treatment. If people with impaired vision or hearing are somehow the same as ignorant, uninformed people, then it's easier to disregard our opinions. But even if I'm right about that, it's of course not a substitute for concrete changes in how society treats disabled people.
