I think because the UN is in town there are a couple of US military guys in camouflage with guns guarding… ?or IDK existing ominously? at my Bronx subway stop presumably they are looking for terrorists or more likely just proving the good ‘ol’ USA is still wealthy enough to pay for cosmetic overtime hours.

It’s part of a 9/11 program where the military offers “support” to the local police. But we don’t need any extra guys to just stand around being ominous in NYC. So they get sent to “major landmarks” and subway stops. I had thought maybe it was happening less because of how overextended the war has left them for personal- but apparently not. In DC they had them pick up trash. But trying to start a conversation about “government waste” on this subject is seen as a third rail.
