I’m convinced performative liberalism on social media helped wreck the American Left. Republicans figured out that a lot of people don’t actually want the fight. They want the dopamine hit of looking like they’re fighting. They post, they grandstand, they get to feel righteous for five minutes, and there’s the dopamine rush they came for. And once people got that dopamine from a screen, they had less reason to get out in the street and demand actual change.
