I'm planning a trip to Oaxaca, Mexico with my mom for our 75th/45th birthdays. (We were supposed to do 70/40 but traveling 5 years ago was a hard no.) Anybody have any "don't miss this" suggestions for Oaxaca (city + coastal), or "skip it, it ain't great" thoughts? We're both mobile and fairly active. My mom can't really do boats anymore. We both love normal stuff: art/culture, mole (omg yum) and other Mexican cuisine, beautiful natural stuff, etc. #AskFedi #recommendations #travel #mexico

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com Zaachila and San Bartolo De Coyotepec are must visits. The Center part of Oaxaca city is of course a given (market, cathedral, plaza). Mitla also a great place to visit...

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com btw Oaxaca is quite huge! There is the town, which is amazing and has so much great food and Mezcal... There's a few bars and restaurants I can recommend... And then it's a case of do you want to spend some time at the beach? Mazunte is where we went which was quite quiet and a bit hippie, I would avoid Puerto Escondido (bit party party). Took about 4 and a half hours by bus from Oaxaca to Oaxaca beach

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com and yeh I would deffo take time to go see Monté Alban - it's quite a nice view up there. Can recommend 'In Situ' for some banging Mezcal...and there was a bar called 'Malcriado Bar' which had some good music and nice people. For food, no point recommending because you are going to struggle to eat something bad!
