I would rather have a freeform "player says what they're trying to do, GM describes whether they succeed or fail" fiat system than "GM tells player to roll some dice, player outputs a number, GM says whether that means success or failure". If you're asking me to engage with the mechanics of the game, I need to know what I'm shooting for. Announce the target number, it's that simple! #TTRPG
