RE: https://retro-gaiden.com/@Oregon_Pacifist/116924720300785715 Ok the person I purchased this from didn’t know the specs. I purchased it for $80 and booted up Linux Mint from a USB thumb drive. Here, I was able to confirm the specs. The computer currently doesn’t have an internal drive. It’s a 2010 model Mac Pro CPU: Quad core Intel Xenon 3.2 GHz GPU: Radeon HD 5770 1 GB RAM: 32 GB DDR3 This is perfect! All it needs now is a decent internal drive and maybe a newer Radeon card thrown in and I’m set! :pixelfire: #Apple #RetroComputing

@Oregon_Pacifist@retro-gaiden.com I bought a surplus one like this from a university and upgraded it to damn near max. One thing to watch out for, especially on Linux, is the fan profiles let stuff get really hot. There's a ton of excellent resources out there to help you max it out. Good luck and have fun!

@Oregon_Pacifist@retro-gaiden.com I think to remember right that Macs could be picky about which drive you put them, at least in the PPC line, but they are all with SATA, no issue to put in any kind of cheap disk you have in hands.

  • @Oregon_Pacifist@retro-gaiden.com That's a lot amount of DDR3 RAM for 2012. Along with a Xenon processor, someone was using this for production, it sounds like. For a MAC, I'd normally expect that production purpose to be video editing or something along those lines, but that Radeon 5770 in 2012 would be a weird choice alongside everything else.

  • @Oregon_Pacifist@retro-gaiden.com great deal right there especially with the price of everything now these days. And with those specs you got a great deal. Hope everything works out for you.
