Linux vs. Windows 11 Speed Test (Lab Tested)
This is a test comparing Fedora Linux and Windows 11 on the same low-spec (Intel Core 5 320, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD) computer in real-world scenarios. 6 wins for Fedora, 4 ties, and 1 win for Windows 11.
Some examples:
This wasn’t one of the tests, but worth noting: Fedora idle RAM usage was 33%, while Windows used 85%.
Fedora reboots in under 30 seconds, while Windows takes 61 seconds to reboot.
Unzipping a file takes 12 seconds on Fedora and 57 seconds on Windows (excuse me, what?!). 7-Zip was much faster on Windows, 17 seconds instead of the 57 seconds the stock app used.
Compiling a VS Code project took 140 seconds on Fedora and 221 seconds on Windows.
The only win that Windows got was Cyberpunk 2077’s launch time, 54 vs. 57 seconds. Not a very exciting win, but a win nonetheless. They didn’t test gaming performance.
