My iPhone 18 Pro Max finally has a variable aperture, and I wanted a test where the difference is obvious without pixel peeping. So I went outside at midnight and shot the same path twice. First photo is f/1.48, second is f/4.0. Look at the lamps. Wide open they are just soft round blobs. At f/4 every light turns into a star, because the aperture blades are now small enough to bend the light at their edges. Further back the stairs and the building wall get sharper too, since more of the scene falls into focus. For years phone cameras had one fixed hole and faked everything else in software. Now I can close it down myself and watch the physics do the work. #iPhone18ProMax #iPhone #Photography #MobilePhotography #NightPhotography #Blog #Thoughts
