On Friday, Sept. 11, Tommy Allen and a small group of his transphobic buddies showed up outside The Sports Bra to protest the bar after staff asked guests wearing transphobic shirts to leave the previous weekend.
They did not make it inside or even close to the bar.

The community was already there. Antifascists arrived before Allen’s group and took up space inside and in front of the bar. At least 35 antifascist protesters showed up, while Allen’s group was around 7 people. Inside, The Sports Bra stayed packed with patrons throughout the evening. The demonstration quickly became less of a protest outside the bar and more of an attempt to hold ground against a community that had turned out to support the business and defend one another. Allen’s group was outnumbered and pushed away from the bar. None of them made it inside. The confrontation moved several blocks away. At least one person was bear-maced during the confrontation away from The Sports Bra.
