If I lease an EV through Octopus at say £300 (including insurance and maintenance) but save at least £140 per month in fuel that makes the net cost to me ~£120 The purchase price of my car was £3500 and assuming it needs the same in keeping it going for 5 years (optimistic, needs a cambelt & tires) that doesn't make owing it much cheaper than renting an EV (which has a much lower incremental cost per mile). That's comparing a 15 year old Volvo with a new EV, so not exactly a fair comparison...

    Not sure it'll be worth buying and fixing cheap cars if fuel prices stay like this. I save money doing work myself but the unit cost of EV motoring is just so much lower, and far less maintenance is needed overall. I'll have to move on to cheap EVs...no such thing right now!
