My ex-partner is weird as fuck sometimes. We have a rule, we need to meet each other's boy/girlfriends before the kids can hang out with them. A simple rule, just to get a read of the person, catch their vibe, and know whether we're comfortable with it. It's been in place for like 8 years now, and I've met one dude. Most I've never met, purely because she's like "fine, I just won't introduce them to the kids". Suddenly she's got a serious boyfriend, and the kids have "inadvertently" met the dude. I reminded her this isn't cool, and she needs to introduce me to him. She's always cagey as fuck about this stuff, doesn't do it right, and pisses everyone off in the process. So I suggested beers on Friday arvo; nope, he can't make it. How about coffee on Sunday morning? Nope, we're busy. Then I get a message at 9:30 this morning saying "He's going to come with me, pick the kids up, and meet you". Ok, fine, we could have done coffee, but if that's what it takes. I get a message at 10am, when she should be here. Apparently she informed him AFTER she informed me. He's like "What? No, I need to be ready for this". It's all been beaten up way out of proportion, now I'm some scary dad that this dude has to meet. All because my ex-partner cares way too much about what people think of her, ruminates on shit for ages, and then springs stuff at the last minute to "mitigate" any perceived problems. I've told her repeatedly I don't give a fuck what people think of me, like, not at all any more, and this stuff really grates up against my lifestyle

  • @sortius@beige.party It shouldn't be such a big deal, it's not as if you 2 blokes are a threat in any way. Just get on with it like grown ups (that's directed at him).
