Right so for those wanting an explanation... ^H represents it the literal represtation of pressing the Ctrol (^) and H keys, which is a backspace in early computers and terminals. It comes from the ANSI control code set from the 1970's which had decimal 08 as the move cursor left one space command. Some keyboards at the time did not have a dedicated backspace key, so a Ctrl + key sequence was coined, and since the command was 08, they chose the eighth letter to represent it (H).
