@lovinurbanism@mastodon.social Elided context caused when people chop the Bible into verses and try to use those as stand alone instructions: Matheew 19:13: "Some people brought children to Jesus so that he would place his hands on them and pray. But the disciples scolded them."(Common English Bible, 2011) Now to a problem about basic comprehension of a changing language: As meant: Matthew 19:14: "Aber Jesus sprach: Lasst die Kinder und wehrt ihnen nicht, zu mir zu kommen; denn solcher ist das Reich der Himmel!" (Schlachter, 2000) Matthew 19:14: "“Allow the children to come to me,” Jesus said. “Don’t forbid them, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to people like these children.”" (Common English Bible, 2011) As read: Matthew 19:14: "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." (King James Version, 1611, archaic English) As understood?: "And Jesus said ... make children suffer ... and send them to heaven, I guess.
