I second the idea of intermittent shade crops (sunflowers, sorghum, maize?) to break the impact of excess rain and hail. Another thought is lattice fences or cane or other tripod structures over the rows, maybe combine with a shade fabric? A barometer might also be a sound investment.

But sometimes it depends also on the community you are in and what things people in that area could manage. But taking that aside this is a school garden so we don't have enough space for carrying out intercroping alternatives like mentioned above but in actual sense they are good to grow if you have enough space and they are healthy, so we have that dream but...
